Happy Mail

Carolyn created the most adorable "Bird on a Tree Stump" piece and posted it on her blog a few weeks ago.  After commenting on it, she asked if I would like to do an art trade for it.  I just loved the idea of being able to create a surprise for Carolyn and was just tickled that I would be able to get her beautiful piece in return!  Here is what Carolyn sent me:

Isn't this just the most adorable hand sewn tree stump and precious little bird! She even included these extra goodies which I just love! You can never have enough fibers and ribbon!!

Here is what I made for her:

It was a fluted tin I spray painted and embellished. What a great trade this was Carolyn!! Thanks so much!!!

ATC's From Sarah

My good friend Sarah of Vintage Figments and I got together yesterday for a little shopping, a little eating, some catching up and an entirely enjoyable day.  Sarah just got back from her Artful Voyage cruise to Mexico with Tim Holtz and Wendy Vecchi.  She created some amazing art during her voyage and gave me some of the ATC's she had traded while on the cruise.  I love all of them.....thanks again Sarah!!

My good blog friend Kris Dickinson of A Nostalgic Halloween sent me this wonderful tag and some awesome ATC's in return for a few ATC's and a tag that I sent her last week.  I loved opening the beautiful package and seeing these wonderful goodies inside....thanks Kris for the happy mail!!

Altered Spoon

I recently picked up some old spoons while out thrift shopping and decided to try altering one of them. I have seen many different kinds of altered silverware out in blogland...all of them beautiful. I decided to make mine a Christmas ornament. I cut off part of the handle and curled the rest back to make a loop then I put burgandy colored velvet on the spoon and added trim and embellishments. There is a great tutorial on how to do this at Gingersnap Creations Blog. Thanks for stopping by my nest!

Mini Notebook

With the back to school sales going on right now I couldn't pass up buying several of these mini composition notebooks....only 50 cents at Target. So I decided to try covering one with paper this time. I used the wrinkle free distress method on cardstock with Tim Holtz distress inks and then added some stamps to the front and inside cover. I also made a matching tag to use for a bookmark. Making these little notebooks are addicting:)

All the paper items used on this notebook were glued using the sample of the month at UHU....their original glue stick. If you click here you can still request a free sample of their UHU Stic. It's wonderful! It's colored purple so that you can actually see where you have applied the glue but it dries clear. It glues everything securely even around the edges where I find that some glues just don't cut it.

Fabric Mini Book

So inspired by Judy's adorable fabric mini journal, I decided to give this a try. Mind you, I don't sew much...ask my hubby who sews his own buttons. So....I didn't sew anything I just glued everything! I have to give a shout out to the folks at UHU who sent me a sample a few months ago of their Twist and Glue. This stuff is fantastic and this entire piece was glued using the twist and glue! I also added vintage French text pages to the inside front and back covers to finish it nicely. I think I need more practice and will have to make a few more before I get this technique down....who knows I might even break out the sewing machine:) Thanks for stopping by my nest!
